SCUOLA INTERPOLITECNICA DI DOTTORATO (SIPD) is a special project whereby the three Italian Technical Universities, the Polytechnic of Torino (coordinator of the project), the Polytechnic of Bari and the Polytechnic of Milano, aim to offering a joint PhD program of high qualification in the areas that the three Polytechnics consider strategic:
- Information and Communication Technologies
- Biomedical and Biomechanical Engineering
- Environmental and Territorial Safety and Control
- Innovation Management and Product Development
- Nanotechnologies and nanostructured innovative materials
The network structure underlying the project allows the three schools to promote common actions which range from organizing joint high level courses and seminars for the students; networking facilities and laboratories; sharing of best practices in running the PhD student activities, to performing together the selection of the most talented candidates, and putting in common international relations and cooperation programs and the participation in high level research projects.
DUTIES/BENEFITS OF THE STUDENTS ENROLLED IN SIPD:
- All students will have a scholarship;
- Their scientific work will be constantly monitored by the international science board of SIPD, which they will meet periodically;
- They will conduct part of their research in the laboratories of the three partner schools, in cooperation with the relative faculties and PhD students;
- They are expected to spend during the three years of PhD training from a minimum of nine to a maximum of eighteen months in foreign structures (universities, research laboratories);
- During the periods abroad the amount of the scholarship will be increased 50%;
- Travel and accommodation expenses relative to the periods abroad, fees and tuition for scientific conferences and/or courses attended in other institutions relevant to the completion of their doctoral work, and other personal costs connected with their research, will be taken care of by the School;
- They are not required to the tuitions fees
Admission to Scuola Interpolitecnica is by a competition; the call is published yearly and it is available in the section Call of this site.
Each candidate will be evaluated on the basis of the titles presented (master degree or equivalent, scores of the exams, presentation letters, etc.) and of a research project proposal in one of the five scientific areas.
The number of positions available every year is decided by the School bodies and is indicated in the call.
For the coming academic year (01/01/2008 31/12/2010) a total of 22 positions are awarded.
